I mounted a trap on my Getaway for the first time this year. Was able to use them last weekend for the first time. We had 15 to 20knot winds with gusts to 25. We sail in the Ocean so with the winds there are always swells that you have to be mindful of - violent pitchpolling etc. We were flying about when we started to pitchpole. My buddy was skippering and reacted very quickly which prevented us from going over completely. It did not prevent me from flying from the port side to the starboard side (around the jib!) like a tether ball! I know on the 16's there is a "righting" line that some hold on to when trapping. Is there something on the Getaway that would stabilize the person on the trap from free flying forward or reverse? I know on a pitch it probably would not prevent the tether ball effect but under normal flying or am I just suppose to hold on the handle on the trap line?

The technical word you are looking for is called a 'chicken line'.
This is used on many beach catamarans, and is a simple line attached to the stern,
(sometimes to a rudder pin, sometimes to an eye strap bolted to the lip),
and you hold the loose end to prevent that 'trip around the world' that
you describe so well.

Chicken lines should never be tied to your harness, looped or cleated is okay,
however, there has to be some method of releasing things quickly.

Some folks use the righting line as a chicken line.

Many folks also mount a windsurfer's foot strap to the rear corners of the hulls.

Good winds!

Checkout the trapeze ropes on "My Getaway Mods"

viewtopic.php?f=23&t=48165

They work great. Keep you from flying forward or knocked backward, and still can slip in and out.
