I picked up a 1996 Wave. It has the older mast base (Hobie 14 style). The hole where the pin goes when you step the mast has broken, so it can't hold the pin anymore. Should I just replace the mast base, or should I replace the cup as well? Is there any advantage to upgrading to the newer style mast base and cup? Is it a direct replacement? Thanks in advance.

I would just replace the mast base. Less expensive than replacing with the newer version parts.

Thanks.. Do I need to use the mast step link kit? I'm a newbie to Hobies. Can't find rigging instructions for the older Waves and see two different stepping instructions for H14 stepping.

Yes, you need the link. Same is used for Hobie 14/16. There may be two step ideas for H14 and Wave would be similar. One uses the link which is safer.
