What type of rivets are used to join the upper rudder casting to the steering arm. Aluminium or SS. I want to replace to remove slop. They look shiny suggesting SS but I have read that SS should not be used with aluminium.
Thanks

For me the big deal was putting epoxy on the tiller when I put it back into the casting. After that you don't really need the rivets. I used stainless 'cause that's what I had, but as I said ...

Two years on and stall perfectly slop free, as you'd expect.

Stainless.

Aluminum rivets have low shear strength, so we have to use Stainless rivets.

I have seen references to using Monel rather than SS rivets, which are preffered

Like Titanium is better than aluminum... Monel-Stainless is better than stainless, but cost is an issue. We use stainless as the standard.
