Me too, amazed that I got some good days in. Actually Halloween is supposed to be 60 and only 56 at night. Pretty amazing for northern MA. I could almost go out for one last sail.

I'm a bit north of Hogwldfltr, and I'm still sailing. Went out today to one of the best days of the year. Fifty degree air temperature, but the wind was consistent between 8 and 12 mph, and guess which is more important? Last year I went up to December and about a week or two before the lake I sail on froze over. A lot of days, if I don't capsize (which I usually don't), I'll be a little bit sweaty.

I wear a wet suit bottom, and spray shirt and spray jacket top. Wool hat, full gloves, and boots. I do back off on the maximum wind, and am looking at a max of 20 -25 mph. I sail conservatively with staying upright the goal over maximum speed. Important point to remember is there is no one else out, so help is at least 20 minutes away.

But I like fall and spring sailing. No one on the lake, no pesty rafts and moored boats to limit how close I can get to shore, and the trees have no leaves, making the wind near shore a lot more consistent.

Best of luck,

Jim Clark-Dawe

The biggest thing keeping me off the water now is my crews lack of wet suit. The rain doesn't help either.

Every once in a while on of these become available....

Drysuits are great... It perhaps would be a good idea to go for a swim in your gear after a sail and see how long you can actually stay safe in the cold water.....

Definitely I have a finite time limit in the water. I figure it's something like 15 - 20 minutes, but shorter is a lot better. Or if I'm wet, even in the air. However, having done a long rescue in a dry suit, let me tell you that there's a finite limit in dry suits as well.

One thing I forgot to mention is it's not the time of year to go far offshore, unless conditions are so nice that there's no way you're going to capsize. If you're going far offshore, I'd want another boat with me.

Best of luck,

Jim Clark-Dawe

So far I've been sticking in the harbor and not going out the inlet. That'll be next year. New sails came in this week and I'm anxious to try them out. They may have to wait until the spring unless I can get it together to sail on the sixty degree Wednesday coming up this week.

I got in an exciting late season sail a few weeks back- the forecast 10-15 kts wound up having several gusts to 25... we were very glad we had our drysuits on!

There's been good wind a lot recently, but with the air/water temperatures, and lack of other boaters on the lake, its time to put the boat away for the winter...

Two weeks ago I should have gone byt my crew was off working. It was about 65 and the boat was calling. I just couldn't answer. Looks like the season is over and done until the spring. RIP.

SNOVAK Amazing video...and nice main sail...

QUESTIONS
1 where do you mount your spin blocks? Looks like way towards the stern...
2 do you have cissy blocks as well? If not, how do you hold on to your spin sheet?
3 what line do you use for the spin sheet? Salsa? Robbline? what size?
4 do you always run your spin from the wings? (we normally run from the tramp, just behind the mast)
5 how 'tight' do you keep your mainsheet when using the spin? (to prevent the mast from snapping).
6 did you keep track of your speed (GPS) and what was the max?
7 sails from Chip? How do you find them.... email me when you can.

Amazing video.... more please....

Sweet..... Nicely done. How hard was it to get back up from turtle?

Yes let us know about your spinnaker set-up. I haven't had mine on my boat in several years. I need the right crew to utilize it.
