I was on the Australian Kayak Fishing Forum and saw that the new rudder is now available for retail. Is this the same case here in the US?

Here is a link of SLH in Australia retailing the product: http://slhobie.com.au/hobie/hobie-kayak-parts/535-large-pro-angler-rudder

Australia got some early for the Fishing Worlds boats... They worked well!

Dealers have access to the part number in our ordering system, We have just now received some here in the US.

Correct part number is:

84612001 RUDDER BLADE, LARGE PRO A

All sales are through a dealer. Most do mail order, so contact your closest.

http://www.hobiecat.com/dealers/

This has not yet been announced to dealers as we do not have a full stock, so don't be surprised that they do not know about it. It can be ordered by them for direct delivery to you (drop-ship) for an additional $10. It will be shown in the new catalog come March. I'm currently preparing catalogs... and for departure to Australia for 3 weeks to support the Hobie 16 Worlds http://www.hobieworlds.com, so will not announce to dealers until late February or March.

This is phenomenal. I'm assuming this is to fix (or mostly remedy) the steering and coasting (don't know the term) issues of the PA 12? Also to add some responsiveness to the PA14?

Thanks so much. This is an AWESOME upgrade if this is the case.

Cheers,
Dave

Matt,
Is this new larger rudder a direct replacement for the PA14 purchased in April of 2012?
Thx.

It will fit any PA 12 or 14, but is over-sized and due to that... is not a "Direct" replacement in that is exceeds some of the design conditions for the Pa 12 and 14. It extends aft of the handle. It extends aft on the loading skids, so will require careful handling or slight modification for loading using the skids.

It has to be large to add surface area.

This is a optional accessory for added rudder authority. It is not a retrofit or warranty replacement.

A picture would be nice. Tucked in and extended as well. Thanks.

I just got my confirmation from my dealer of two larger rudders ordered. I made 2 larger aluminum ones with anodes which I will save for salt water.
Thanks to Hobie for continuing to listen to its customers and responding in a timely manner.

A couple of the guys here in Western Australia have the new rudder fitted. You can see their thoughts on my local forum here, including some pictures of the rudder fitted.

Cheers,
Graeme

I have no idea. I'll repost some of the pics here from that thread later today.

(I'll also raise that question with the other administrators: I don't see a good reason to restrict access to that part of the forum.)

Cheers,
Graeme
