[Off Topic] Homemade folding kayak

I noticed that there is no where on this forum for "off topic" discussion. That's rather unfortunate, because there is a kayak I've been looking at since I became interested in the Hobie kayaks last year. The origami-style folding kayak was designed and went into production last year by Oru Kayak. The thing is 25 pounds and folds into itself to make a nice sized box to carry around.

I'm much more inclined to build the homemade version myself *and* buy a Hobie yak, because I can't make a Hobie.

The Oru Kayak is not necessarily off topic depending on its application to Hobie. I am also interested in a folding canoe/kayak. I happen to lean towards the Pakboats Puffin, specifically the Saco model. The Saco weights 20 pounds with a 275 pound load capacity. The Saco does take 10 to 15 minutes (or longer) for assembly but, when folded, can be carried in a backpack. The application to Hobie is in its ability to be both towed and carried.

I kayak camp/fish quite often in the wilderness (six to eight nights). At 63 years, I like to camp in comfort. I'm close to 250 pounds which leaves just 150 pounds for gear including my folding comfort chair. Loading my Outback to its 400 pound capacity sets it so low that water comes to the top of the mesh pocket just forward of the seat. I'm thinking I could load the Saco with a lot of my stuff and tow it and, as a bonus, this would allow me to take even more stuff. An additional plus would be I could portage (carry) the Saco for day trips, from the campsite, to ponds and lakes where I cannot portage (wheel) the Outback. The Oru Kayak could be used in a similar fashion which brings it on topic with Hobie.
