Keep the homegrown ideas coming Proyak. And thanks for sharing them, at cost.

Your ball joint version may work out fine. I look forward to your testing reports. My concern with your design is that it just slips over the ball and could dislodge while tacking. It's amazing how much the hiking stick gets thrown around when sailing and hiking out! :)

Didn't go today as planned due to my "first mate" being under the weather :(

When we first started hiking out on the Hakas, I tried using the shaft from my old driver as a stick, but the boat kept slicing to starboard.

OK I finally purchased by TI at Fairhope Boat Company in Fairhope Alabama, after 3 years of research. I can not wait to get her in the water. I have decided this is my first modification as I already see it is needed. Has anyone just added a swivel socket linkage to the handle at the tread and extended with all thread and a screw on handle? I am likely going to give that a shot. Here is the linkage:

PS I chose Papaya for safety it was painful leaving without Hibiscus!

Hi John, I would favor one of these plastic or stainless quick release parts.

Looks like they will freely rotate and can be removed easily. You just need a 1/4 inch 20 threaded post, inserted into the hobie knob.

For the tiller extension, you need a lightweight, non-flexible, extendable pole. Even a cheap hiking stick.

Only works from the front seat of a TI, of course.

Unless,...

It seems most carborator ball linkages are in 1/4 - 28. I can double check, but are you 100% the TPI is 20 and not 28?
