Storing Rudders on Trailer

I'm in the process of getting a new Getaway and was wondering about storing rudders on the trailer. I'm thinking I might have to go with a seperate box and sail tube and was wondering what size box I will need just for the rudders. How long is the rudder assembly when they are opened up to the point that the arm is straight in line with the rudder and how wide is the rudder?

I have the Hobie toy box, and put the rudders in there for trailering. Plenty of room for everything - rudders, tiller, mainsail, spinnaker and bowsprit, and my mast stepper III. But I don't know the size off hand.

The hobie toy box is plenty roomy for all my H18 stuff so should have no issues there. On previous trailer I installed a sail tube made of pvc drainage pipe that was 12" diameter and 9' long, fit the rudders with arms as well as 2 sets of sails, boom, paddle, and life vests.

Thanks for the responses. My current setup on my H18 trailer has a large galvanized toybox. Roughly 30" wide x 15" deep x 10' long. It has a one piece lid that lifts off with latches to lock it down at the front & rear. I'm pretty spoiled now, so I guess I'm a little over-paranoid about downgrading. Other than sheer space for storage, I'm also concerned about access and being able to lock it. As far as I can tell the Hobie box can't be locked. And with the front tramp on the Getaway access from the front appears to be out no matter what toybox you have. Between not being lockable and the high cost of the box itself plus freight I don't really think I want to go with the Hobie box. It's good to know the rudders will fit into the 12" tube. And with less to store on the Getaway vs. the 18 I'm hoping front access becomes a non-issue as well.

You could add hasps to the covers of the toybox to lock it. The Getaway sits up high enough that it really isn't a problem to reach the front cover.
I always empty my toybox out and put both covers in the car, so the toybox floods and empties when I launch and recover the boat. I had a home made wooden box, the size of the toybox, on my H-17 trailer, and it made the trailer float when I was trying to recover the boat.
The Hobie box is pricey, I agree. But I didn't want to be bothered building a box during sailing season!
