I bought a Tandem Oasis online that has a small dent and scratch on the side and was sold as damaged. When it was shipped to me it was sustained damage to the keel. The dealer is saying from pictures that it wouldn't affect the performance of the kayak, but I am unsure. The keel actually takes a turn to the right, its hard to show in pictures. What ya think?

I do not claim to know anything about this topic, but thought I would give my thoughts.

I Don't think performance would be affected by any significant means... The value of the kayak, if you were to sell it at a later date may be affected... If you are happy with what you paid for the vessel- I wouldn't worry about it.

There should have been insurance coverage on the freight delivery. Are you aware of what the coverage was and who would file the claim (you or the dealer)?

Not sure what you are concerned about... The dent and bend in the keel or the scratches.

I think that any tendency to turn to one side due to the bend in the keel will be unnoticeable but if I am wrong on that score I am pretty certain that you will be able to overcome it with a small amount of opposite rudder.

As to the scratches - don't worry about them : unless you keep it inside wrapped in cotton wool (which may not actually be what you bought it for :D ) it is gonna pick up some scratches. If they offend your eye too much you can clean the muck out of them with a water blaster & then they'll hardly be visible.

Tell you what else, though : you have a great boat there (I am lovin' my new Oasis) and if you negotiated a good price as I suspect you did you've done well I reckon!
