Ok, partial update.

You guys are totally correct. The published weights are incorrect for the 2015 AI as well as the TI. As I suspected the factory / engineers did some estimates last fall for brochures, long before the boats were in production. Seems the hull (critical car top lifting) weights were very close (as you guys noted). The balance of included gear and fittings, when the boat is fully rigged with all included equipment, is the area that is wrong. The all up weights are going up. The TI was further off. The effect of two new seats and all the mold changes and hardware to fit them are likely the biggest issues. We'll have to wait until the factory updates marketing and management before it goes on the website.

Yes, Matt, that is good to hear. Correcting the weights will allow people to make better decisions. Thanks!

Excellent. Well, it is a bit heavy, but it is what it is.

So what is the carrying capacity now the AI and TI are heavier?

Capacity is unchanged. All capacity tests are done with current boats, and boats were the same weight when tested - just the specs published were not published correctly. We'll verify on Monday with the engineers here what they say but I believe this is the case.

Capacity is also not an exact science. We stay way on the safe side and round the numbers, so a few pounds change in the actual boat won't change anything.

Thanks for the clarification to this weight spec. It is an important factor in the decision making. Back in 2012, one of the reasons I went for an AI over the TI was due to weight.

So have I got this right......

A fully rigged new model AI is about 3 kgs lighter than the previous model TI ?

I don't feel so bad now - I'm a whole 3kgs lighter than a fully-rigger 2015 A.I.! :-)

I suspect the weights for the pre-2015 A.I. and T.I. may be out a bit too...

Mike.

I think that is the case - I'm pretty sure the weight were wrong on previous model but I haven't confirmed

Thanks Matt/Jacques,

Once again Hobie shows why it's one of the best - listening to customers (even if we can be a pain in the arse sometimes!).

Cheers,

Mike.

Some reasoning...

Aside from the seats and hardware and additional plastic added for seat support:

AI:

Amas: 33% larger than V1
Mast: 1 ½ feet taller
Hull: 6” longer, 4” more freeboard, 2” wider
Battens: Larger diameter, with more full-length battens
Centerboard Conversion: added weight to the well; the board itself is heavier; and the spring-loaded mechanism/casing added weight

TI:

Hull: Slight waterline increase: more surface area, and commensurate hull strengthening as a result
