I thought I got everything ready to work but when I started cranking, the attachment to the bottom of the mast (called the "adapter") which I had secured with the shock cord supplied, separated from the mast at the end not in the luff track, as if it ( the adapter ) did not fit the 17 mast well enough. Does anybody have any advice??

The pole has to stay perfectly perpendicular to the mast. On a 17 you would have to adapt it to the bridle and bow lengths. Sport or SE?

The pole has to be in compression into the mast, so the attachment point on the pole is slightly forward of the bridle and winch points.

Matt It's a Sport, but how do I get compression onto the mast? Thanks!

It is designed for the Getway, so some adjustments are needed.

The pole has to stick out beyond the furler (long enough?). The point of contact of the furler should be directly above it. The attachment to the furler has to allow the pole to stay perpendicular to the mast, so the pole at a right angle to the mast. You may have to rake the mast forward before attaching the pole?
