Calling out all current and potential sailors at Codorus State Park, PA! I was out there no later than today and counted no less than 18 H16s (mine incl.), a couple Prindles, a few Nacras and probably another 10 Hobie cats (20, 18s, wave, getaway, h14). You would think with that kind of a local fleet there would be some kind of organized sailing, racing or for fun, going on... but not the case. Anyone sailing there please respond. Everyone else feel free to provide ideas/ experience on organizing local events.

Thanks and good sailing!

I'm interested in joining a Codurus group for racing, etc. Have you been able to get anything started?

No luck yet, but I have been meeting new people at the lake. This weekend was pretty good with about 5-8 cats out each day. Had a good time out Sunday. Monday was ok early but really fell off later on. Will be out Thursday as forecast calls for breezy weather.

Artep, What do you sail?

I sail an H16, but I'm a relative newbie to cat sailing and I've never raced. I'm thinking about setting up some bouys next time I'm out just to have a mark to shoot for and tack around. Guess I'd better check with the park first. I'm told they used to have races at Codurus.

It's June 21, 2012. Is Codorus State Park still a Hobie hotspot?

The mix of cats has changed a bit since last year but still about the same... meaning most of them seem to be there just in storage and barely get used. This weekend is fairly busy with Codorus Blast going on but still not great turn outs. What you you sail? PM me, Ill be out next weekend.

Bumping this old topic to gauge some interest for coming season. I'll have my H18sx out starting in April. Also been told by park office still plenty of room for mast up storage at the sailing area.

I was just out at Codorus for the 5th of July. It seems like a pretty easygoing area. Not too busy. THe 20 hp limit seems to keep the powerboat traffic to a minimum. The shore/beach area was great for staging. Winds were very light (5 knots or so) but still a lot of fun. There were a handful of Hobies out on the lake, too. I will definitely be going back again, hopefully with some stronger winds.

Glad to hear a new sailor's take on the local "beach". I sail out of the mast up area at least one day of most weekends since summer '10 during the season. Was out on my H16 the morning of the 4th in 10 to 15 mph, gusting to 25 winds and it was a blast. You'll find me mainly on my H16, but occasionally on my H18sx if I have crew. PM me next time you'll be out there.

BTW- Still room for mast up storage until end of Oct. to get you more time on the water with less set up.

Hi -- I saw this thread and wondered if you could give me some advice about what boats are populace on Lake Codorus. I'm an experienced dinghy sailor wanting to get my son into sailing -- probably a cat of some kind. He’ll be 8 soon and I'm thinking something like an H16 unless there is something more modern that would be more fun.

Any advice on what would be a good fit for Codorus?

Thanks!
