Today was better, short video

Today's wind was a little better at 8-13 but we had gusts up to 20, temp was 55* mostly overcast. On thing about lake Arthur is the wind is never consistent and weather like today it can shift 100* or more so I sailed on the cautious side. I still don't know the boat well so want to keep it close to the water and just get a feel for it. She does sail nice but my rigging is still to loose and the jib vibrates so bad the whole boat vibrates. I even used a jib halyard line to tighten things up but it's still not right.

Great video! Question on the rail neoprene you added - is the glue OK on the "PVC" hulls compared to where it's usually used on H16 metal frame? Mast base pin in or out on that sail?? Cheers!

The contact cement will not hurt the hulls at all, I put this on my Bravo years ago. Lay it down where you want it and draw a line around with a pencil. When taping it off, go inside the mark, est: 1/16in, that way no glue will show. When you go to install it, use a sheet of wax paper in between the two and slowly pull it out as you align the marks.



I hope to get some video this weekend with my Sony Action cam, it will mark the speed. I also just got a 3 axis gimbel to really show boat movement.

I took Wednesday off and went sailing. We had 5 boats with 11 mph winds. And while I watch the 14T and 3, 18's fly hulls back and forth, I sailed my under powered Tank back and forth following them, wishing I had some Viagra to give my boat, maybe then I could get a hull up.

Thanks for the info on the grip pads. Looks like a great early spring project when I'm waiting for the ice to melt. Planning to take my T2 out one last time tomorrow and then disassemble. Time to get the snowboards and cross country skis ready in my neck of the woods. in case you're curious my top speed so far is 20.6mph according to my gps watch. This was with crew on trap, me hiked out and barely flying a hull.

That's a nice speed to hear about, I haven't used the Gennaker yet either. Our lake is not very good for trapping out if you're 6'3" and 220lbs. More times than not, I'm a tea bag in and out of the water. It's only on Erie that I can get a good ride on the wire. My sailing style is to be on the edge of tipping as often as possible so I hope the T2 can do that. Learning the best sail shape and pocket position will take sometime but it's fun.
We did some measuring Wednesday and my rigging is at least 6" too long, more like 7". I plan to make it shorter tomorrow and try it Sunday but I'l still use a jib halyard to tighten it all up.

I keep my boat in the garage so it's always ready to roll, even a nice day in Dec or Jan are fun.

Pin out on the mast. Page 22 step 6, they call it a bolt but it's the pin. The only ways your mast will fall off the ball is if the rigging is loose enough that you could lift the mast straight up and off yourself and that's too loose for sailing or if the rigging brakes. I'd rather let it fall off the ball then bend the ball, pin or brake the mast base.

I may give the neoprene a try for next year then, as I've been sliding down-slope in the better winds! Wednesday was ideal here on Presque Isle Bay with another H16 and a sailboarder - 77F and 10-15mph+ winds out of south, very gusty off the bluffs. Even in the big gusts, the T2 drives well, and faster than I'd have thought, when pinching.
Looks like similar weather for tomorrow, Sunday might be wetter, and the water is still ~65F!
