Long story short, I bent my fins, straighten it out. I needed the bolds to be replaced with the plastic nut. It's been over one month since my hobie dealer put in my order for parts. Is this normal or is my leg being pulled?

Hard to say, don't know where you are located. Why not put your location in your profile? Also, is that "bolds" or "bolts" or what?

We are continuing to have a severe shortage of parts for the MD180 as boat production is taking everything they can get. We are starting to see masts being available, so that part should start flowing.

We are restricting parts shipments also due to many people trying to do conversions. We can't support that at this time.

Exactly, that is what I need! Should I contact my dealer again about the part being back ordered?

I would ask the dealer to follow up.

The parts are showing available. We will be processing backorders at the end of the week, but the dealer should confirm that the order in in place.

I just want to say that the way Hobie deals with stupid people like me, always damaging my kayak and misc parts/accessories, I cannot be happier. Their customer support is spot on and their warranty is awesome.Image

I was viewing the Hobie parts locator but didn't have any luck finding part#'s of the md 180 drive parts.

I'd like to obtain spare parts (mast, fin and ??) for my new md 180 drive. There's a spare parts bundle for the other drives but not the new 180.

By chance are the masts compatible with the old mirage drives and are there tutorials for working on the md 180's? Thanks,

We have made a change to MD180 fins, masts and booms to help fin durability and replacement. This is a running change. Kayaks have been shipped with the new fin version. V1 and V2 mast, fin and boom parts are not interchangeable.

The new "V2" version removes the adjustment thumb screw from the clew attachment. The fin adjustment is now a screw at the mast head (Similar to the Eclipse flow fin). The boom is modified to accept the new fin with a simple clevis pin and ring connection.

The "V2" brings us back to a known simple clew attachment which allows tool-less fin removal.

Old version fins, Turbo kits, and booms are no longer available (we have V1 masts). If a V1 fin, or boom needs to be replaced... warranty (with claim) would send a complete update kit, including instructions, at no charge. Be aware that, as before, we are somewhat short on these parts as the factory is using all available parts for production.

Here is a list of the new parts:

Kits for MD180 V1 drives to convert to V2 Std or V2 Turbo:

V2 Update Kits
81501111 MD180 V2 BOOM-MAST-STD FIN KIT
81501112 MD180 V2 BOOM-MAST-TURBO FIN KIT
(Includes two booms, two masts and two fins per kit and instructions.)

V2 Replacement Parts
81500002 FIN V2 MD180 STD
81501002 FIN V2 MD180 TURBO
81503002 BOOM V2 MD180 DRIVE
81527002 SPINE ASSY V2 MD180
81528002 MAST W/SCREW V2 MD180 STD (ADJUSTABLE)
81529002 MAST W/SCREW V2 MD180 TURBO (ADJUSTABLE)
8030027 SCREW REPLACEMENT V2 MAST HEAD ADJUSTMENT
8020030 CLEVIS PIN
81503100 CLEVIS RING

V2 Turbo Fin Kit
72067002 ST-TURBO V2 FIN KIT MD180 BK/GR

If V1 to V2 Turbo Upgrade use:
81501112 MD180 V2 BOOM-MAST-TURBO FIN KIT

Thank you for the information Matt even though it is not good news for me.

So it looks like I have (on my New 2017 TI) an obsolete V1 drive  I've always carried an extra mast and fin with me when I sail since 2007. I tried looking up the V1 to V2 upgrade part number you listed on the hobie part locator with no luck. I'm trying to figure out how much this is going to cost me to upgrade to the new MD 180 V2 so I can purchase a spare mast and fin and also it looks like ... a boom.

Were there any problems with the MD 180 V1 drives failing? Or just a poor design and to get it back to the simple clew attachment? It would be nice for Hobie to provide a free upgrade to owners of 2017's when the factory catches up with production.

Upgrades to V2 will be no charge once we get enough parts.
