How taut should my shrouds be? Depending on the wind they get a few inches of slack. :?

I always sailed with a fairly loose rig like you describe. If the tension is too great, the mast will not rotate as easily.

You might want to have more tension in higher winds. Helps keep the mast attached to the boat. :wink:
