These drive alignment pins are not used on the inflatables and should be cut off. I cut them off all the newer Drives so I can use them in any of the boats. A hack saw does a great job. The pins are non-structural and were added to keep new users from inserting the Drives incorrectly on the plastic boats whose drivewells are shaped a little differently. Without the pins it is possible to install the Drive tilted forward on those boats, possibly resulting in a ripped rear fin. An experienced user would recognize the mistake immediately since the pedals would be in the wrong position. 8)

Hi Roadrunner,
Thank you for your reply and solution. it is very helpful to me.

In conclusions for my case:

The assumption of my issue should be within the following:

1. The 2017 i12s model has bug on Mirage Drive 180 installation
2. I got an incorrect Mirage Drive 180 in my i12s set
3. I got an incorrect i12s in my i12s set

Solution

1. Cut off the drive alignment pins from the Mirage Drive 180 for issue 1
2. Reach out Hobie dealer for arrange replacement (Mirage Drive 180 or i12s) for issue 2-3

Your assumptions are correct.

If you got this Drive and boat new, most likely you have the wrong Drive. You can check the serial # on your boat to verify that it is a current year model. For 2017, the last 2 numbers will be 17. If you wish to exchange your Drive for the correct version, check with your dealer before removing the pins. I believe the different versions are otherwise identical, so removing the pins and keeping the Drive will get you on the water faster than waiting for a replacement Drive to arrive. 8)

Hello Roadrunner,

Finally I confirmed with my dealer. I really received a wrong drive. But after discussed with dealer, I have removed the PINS by my self. And I just finished my first Sea trip with family on last Saturday. it is so great for us, we're also very enjoy the new Hobie i12.

Many thanks for your help and suggestion :D :D :D :D
