I want to add a boom to my Bravo, has anyone made their own? I know that you can buy one but I am a DIY kind of guy and I am cheap (there, I said it). I am also interested in adding a jib, has anyone else does this? I have some ideas about how to rig a headstay and backstay over the mast and have some old sailcloth. The main reason I want to add one is to get a little more speed off wind.
While we are on the topic of speed, what point of sail are you getting your top speed at, I have seen lots of discussion on this but not one definitive answer. Mine seems to be between a close haul and broad reach but I have not tracked it.

Boom would be easy to DIY and I haven't used mine enough to compare any noticeable difference with/without it.
Before jumping at the jib idea have a read of the Island section to read about the issues they have when running back stays/spinnaker with the mast. It can certainly be done so post up your fit out when its done.
I would say that close haul is the fastest especially when your leaning all your weight out the side and flying a hull, but only slightly in the air. Broad reach does feel fast but I think the swell movement makes it feel faster than it actually is. Would be worth tracking to compare the two.

I have the boom and it does make a difference. I've been thinking about making one for the T2. But you did give me an idea, maybe in the next week or so, I'll design and 3D print the main part that clips around the mast. Always coming up with new stuff to print, it's great.

Buxton, did you have any luck making the part?

I won't be able to start on it until next week, I haven't been able to even sail in over a month, lost 3 really good weekends.

I measured out the front clip on mount and sliced it for printing. I think you could buy just that part from Hobie for a lot less than it will cost for me to print it. It's a 31 hr print in order to make it strong enough to last, dropping from the normal $5/hr to $3/hr plus material it's around $100.00.

I was surprised to find the clip sold separately.

I'll sell this setup for $50.00, I took it off my Bravo to use the boom on my T2. End cap is for a 16 boom outhaul.
