Follow the doctor's orders and you should be good to go by Christmas. I foresee an amazing summer for you Tony.

Enjoy it mate.
Cheers

Just think of the TI sailing rewards coming Tony, once you get moving again.
Take it a day at a time and and build up gradually.
Hope to see you on the water ASAP!

Hi Tony

Sounds like you have a couple of months before you are back on the water but at least you are headed in the right direction!

I'll be up in Tuncurry with the TI the first week of next month. If it's too early for you to be sailing then we might be able to catch up for a beer or a coffee.

Good luck with the rehab!

Brad

Thanks Brad. I won't be out of Forster Hospital until 6th October, so we just might be able to catch up. Will PM my mobile number

The gift that keeps on giving!

I was discharged from hospital last Friday, after about three months in bed.

On Saturday, I bought a new battery for the car but discovered to my horror that I couldn't get out through the door! My now rigid back did not flex enough to allow my head to clear the door frame.. .

Luckily a passerby offered to be my spotter, and I tried many contortions to get out. Eventually I needed to wind the back of the seat back and then completely counter-intuitively, slide the seat Forward! So this is how I get out of the car now .

.Anyway, I was also having major trouble breathing, so took an ambulance to emergency. An x-ray showed excess fluid around the lungs. Fortunately, medication fixed the problem over the new few days ..

Enough!

Still finding new ways to screw up! As part of diabetes type 2, my extremities suffer from reduced sensitivity. Foolishly, I went barefoot for a time, until walking on a hot bitumen roadway caused as 4x2 INCH blister on the sole of one foot! Yikes! I am now getting dressing change 3 days a week. Serves me right, luckily only a short term setback...

Far more interesting though, is the arrival of a tramp I bought from Salt (Lake) City Sailing, via eBay. I only need a single side, so I purchased a LHS one in a bright blue. I am waiting until the Hobie aka end upgrade parts arrive before fitting the tramp (although my depleted muscles will keep me off the water until after Christmas, sadly). Pricing was about $50 less than the local price for a Hobie one, even allowing for air parcel shipping.. Evidently the buckles are improved, while the spreader bar is elliptical, apparently offering greater strength and comfort. We shall see.

Similarly, I now have the parts (block, clam cleat, end-ball and 4mm line for each side) to enable adjustment of the lateral position of the spinnaker clew (eg barber hauler) to vary the slot width when moving closer to a beam reach or upwind (the spinnaker sheet is now led to a block at the stern of the ama).

Can you tell I am missing sailing?

Finally took photos of some of my x-rays. By the way, the total bill for 5 surgeries. fusing 50% of my spine was A$382, of which titanium parts cost an eye-watering $200!!! (5 operations involved front and back for neck and back, PLUS an emergency fifth one because the strain of fusing 6 extra levels caused a 22 year of screw in my sacrum to work loose (think silver foil on a filling times 100!) so they fitted larger diameter screws plus "L" brackets with extra screws. The "L" brackets cost A$6,400 EACH! Cripes)). The bill did not include 5 air ambulance flights or 12 road amblulance trip covered by my health insurer...

Here is my lower back meccano set:-
