I am taking delivery of a 21SC next week that has a rip in the middle of the front tramp. I wonder if I could cut out the old center mesh and sew in a new piece to the existing outside piece. Obviously, it would need significant reinforcement. Is this a bad idea or do you think it would be possible if I take it to a sailmaker?

I don't see any rip in your picture. My tramp had a few small rips, no longer than 8" and and not more than 1/2" wide. I fixed these with 1/8" dyneema line, grey. I just laced the line through the holes in the webbing, back and forth across the rips. From 5' away it doesn't look bad. From 10' you can barely tell. Total repair cost was about $3. Repair time: 15 minutes.
