Wondering if anyone with Hobie Wave uses a lube on the mast ball or on the mast bottom that sits on the ball. The ball on my mast base comes loose and I tighten before trailering and then before stepping the mast and then once again trailering back home. If I buy a new ball, will this solve my issue? And your thoughts on Locktite or 3M 5200 to secure the ball onto the threaded nut on the base. Love the Wave and enjoy the education this forum provides. Anyone with a Hobie Cat out on Lake Wylie near Charlotte, NC?

The mast ball is a wear item so you dont want to permanently glue it on. Maybe some low strength Loctite. Try tightening the ball with a strap wrench (or padded pliers) first.

I have never lubed my mast ball. Lube would cause sand and other stuff to stick to the ball and mast base and could cause premature wear on said items.

Consider it "self lubricating."

If you are having problems with it unscrewing itself in use, remove, apply a dob of common Household GOOP to the threads and reinstall. That'll take care of it and yet it an still be removed easy enough if need be.
