Since 12 volt lithium batteries are widely available, they are great for fish finders. But, 6 volt lithium batteries are not widely available. In fact, I have located one in China that might work (heavy emphasis on might). The Attwood Tsunami pump, that is used on the Hobie live well, is actually a 12 volt pump. But, Hobie uses a 6 volt battery for them. Can this pump be used safely and properly with a 12 volt battery or is there another pump that I can use with a 12 volt battery?

I believe they use a 6 volt battery on a 12 volt pump is to crank down the power of the circulation........ at 12 volts the thrust is too strong to keep bait in good shape

That's what I figured; However, that is like I had a 63 VW that I changed to a 12 volt system, except for the starter. It really cranked well until it finally burned out. Wouldn't it be better to find a suitable 12 volt pump so we can use a lithium 12 volt battery for it?

I've ordered a 6v 10ah and a 12v 10ah lithium battery from China (Alibaba). I'm not holding my breath on the length of time for the shipment, and I have low expectations on the quality. But, I feel it is worth a try and I'll let you know how it goes.

The pump you listed is a 12 v pump so you can use a 12 v battery. Is is just too powerful for the live well. Be very careful about cheap Chinese lithium batteries......... they have caught on fire more than once.

Thanks for the warning. I just received the 12v lithium ion battery and it weighs 1.7lbs compared to 5.4lbs lead acid one. The size and looks are exactly the same (I'd post a photo, but not allowed). I'll let you know how it goes and when I receive the 6v battery.

So, after almost 5 weeks of testing (kayak fishing - don't you love it) the 12v 10aH battery outlasts me. That includes running a Lowrance Elite 5 Chirp from 4:30am to 4:30pm. The 6v 10aH didn't fair as well, which makes me believe that it is not what it claims to be (imagine that). Running only the Hobie Livewell, it has averaged about 3 hours. Now, I have switched it to a back up battery and use my Interstate 6v 9aH battery, which lasts about 10 hours. So, all in all, I took a risk buying Chinese batteries, but I think it was worth it, for the cost. Now, we'll see how long they last, as lithium batteries are supposed to have a longer lifespan.

I have a 12V 18AH Battery and I only run my fish-finder Elite 7 on it, in your opinion would it be safe or rather would the battery last 6 hours on the water if i connected both the live well and the Elite 7 on one 12V 18AH battery?

I've heard that the Elite 7 uses more power than the Elite 5. Also, the Hobie livewell uses 6v. So, for those reasons, I would only use the 12v for the fish finder.

If you use the 12v battery, you might consider putting a simple "splash plate" in front of the outlet to curb the force of the pump. Worked for me. It primes a LOT better on 12 volts also.

Or use a resistor of appropriate value and rating in series to drop the voltage...
