I believe it's mounted on the front crossbar, not the back one, so rudder clearance isn't an issue. The Hobie catalog shows a motor mount for the Wave, but I think it'll work on the Getaway too. I think the crossbars are very similar in cross-section. It folds sideways, causing the motor shaft to be parallel to the crossbar, and tucks in underneath.
I can see where it might be useful, but in no-wind situations, I've sculled where I needed to go by cranking the rudders back and forth. It's not overwhelmingly fun, but it can get you where you need to go. Also, kicking the rudders up a little gives you better thrust.
