Hi, Newbie here,

I checked the FAQ and searched the forum, but didn't find anything useful, so I hope someone can help me out.

I bought a Quest a while ago and have used it 5 times. This afternoon, while packing up and cleaning off, I noticed that one of my paddle blades has water inside it. When I tip it I can hear it run back and forth.

I guess the solution is to drill a small drain hole. but where? Which end of the hollow part of the blade would be best to have a drainage hole? Is this even a concern? Should it be a permanently open hole? Or should I plug it up with something?

Cheers,
Phil deCube

Should have a foam plug in the shaft. Maybe look in the end and see if your can pull it out.

Drilling a hole to drain a paddle is not going to solve the problem unless you fix where its leaking in the first place.

Thanks Matt,

Yeah, I had a look. At first I thought it was just in the blade part itself. but I can now hear it running up and down the shaft.

I see the foam plug, but I don't think I'll be able to get it out without wrecking it, so I'll check out the local store for a replacement (or the local hardware store.

It appears to be leaking out slowly through the shaft/blade joint, which I guess is where it's got in as well, so I might have to try and seal that with some silastic.

Cheers,

I had that in a non hobie one piece paddle. I laid paddle flat between two supports, drilled a hole in the middle, hung a weight on the shaft so it bowed making the hole the low spot and left it to drain for some time. Then i smeared some epoxy around the shaft /blade joints. Dont seal the join until water drained out. The seal the hole too.

Thanks guys,

I got in touch with Hobie in my country and they told me to take it back to the store, so I did.

See what happens next.

Phil
