Hello!

In hoisting my 2012 Getaway main sail for the first time I noticed that the bolt rope seemed to end below the grommet in the top of the sail - perhaps 4-6” below it. (This was not the case on my Hobie 16 as I recall)

As we hoisted the sail we could see the top of the sail pulling out of the groove in the mast - probably 3-4” - until the sail was all the way up and seemed to me pretty much in the groove.

Does the bolt rope usually do all the way to the top of the sail? And is my experience in hoisting the main sail normal?

If not, how would I remedy this situation?

Concerned that I might be putting too much tension on the grommet if the bolt rope was not where it should be!

Thanks Gang!

Best Regards,

Eric

Should be to the top. Likely bunched up or shrank. A sail loft could add a section up there and stitch in place.

Thanks for your advice Matt.
I’ll look for someone in the Chicago area to do that.
We are shooting for our initial re-launch of her on Father’s Day!
Have a great weekend!
Best Regards,
Eric

It would be easiest to use a sail slug tied or shackled through the head grommet. You can do this yourself since lofts are few around the windy city. https://www.sailrite.com/search?keywords=alslip
