Hi, I was going to buy a Hobie Cat Getaway, but noticed a crack in the hull at the rear crossbeam. It looked nasty but kind of old as well, but the Hobie has almost not been in use the last years (25 times in 10 years).

Is this crack critical? I was told it's a 2008 model

Don't buy it.

Supposedly this isn’t that uncommon. Matt tells us that he’s never heard of a structural failure from this kind of cracking.

structural failure is one thing, but leaks would be an issue as well as resale and cosmetics. I'd run away. Plastic boats get brittle over time....this one obviously has an issue... It'd be different if it could be repaired so it looks new again. Sure, you could "try" plastic welding and some of the newer stuff that folks "say" can repair rotomolded plastic...but not for my money.

Boating is an expensive hobby. If all you can afford is a boat that looks like it is about to fail, maybe you need a different hobby.
