Anyone mounted a third hand tiller holding system on their Getaway? Have one on my Hobie 16 and love it, however the way it's mounted on the 16 won't work on the Getaway. Curious if anyone has modified?

Gracias amigos!

Do you have any pictures of the device? I for one am not sure what it is.

Yeah, it’s kinda like cruise control for a sailboat. It holds the tiller in place and allows for sail adjustment, moving about, beverage drinking, etc in light to moderate wind. Heavy wind you’d want all hands in play. Ha! It mounts in the main traveler track of a Hobie 16, which I had it on formerly. Best mounting option on the getaway I’m not certain.

I've got a bungee cord wrapped around each wing near the back. I tuck the tiller in one of them for "self steering".

Right on. The third hand is really something I never thought I wanted until I had it. Super handy, and nice to be able to grab the stick quick in the event of a gust, or iceberg, or other need for quick steering. :D

First time I hear about it. I like the idea, Hobie should make one for the Getaway. Please post pictures if you manage to mount it on a Getaway.

I used a tiller tamer which I expect is similar to a third hand. Basically, it consists of a small diameter line that you route from the tiller bar, to the opposite wing strut forward to the strut wing across to the opposite float wing strut, aft to the aft wing strut and then over to attach to the opposite tiller bar. Each "turn" should have a block or a ronstan shock to ease the line movement. It is best to use at least one bungie to give the system some tension. Here's a video of it in use.

Caution, if you have someone else on board, remind them not to sit on the line as you can't steer when they do.

Imagehttps://imgur.com/a/80ZLwU0Ended up mounting directly through the hole that is already there from the wing seat pin keeper. Works like a charm, almost like it was meant to be. Holds the tiller perfectly on both sides. I did away with half of the third hand assembly as it wasn’t needed (the parts that allow one to mount in traveler track) .
