Are MSO"s still being issued with new Hobie kayaks? We just bought a 2020 Outback and want to get it insured. Our insurance company is asking for the title or MSO.

Yes, my understanding is that the Dealer (where the kayak was purchased) would be the one to obtain it from Hobie. I just went through the process on a used purchase and had to have the previous owner reach out to the dealer.

Good. I've reached out to the dealer and they're supposed to be working on it but it's been a week and haven't heard anything. We're scheduled to go fishing next weekend and the area where we're going to is well known for thieves stealing kayaks. Won't go without insurance. Cheap peace of mind IMO.

Mine didn't come with one, so I contacted the dealer where I bought it (200 miles away) and they gave me a link where I could print it off directly from the dealer website. Reason I wanted it is because I needed to title it so that I could register it for an electric motor with my state. I printed it off and took to my county registrar and they gave me guff over it and said it was not the original. They finally took it after I showed them that the dealer had to print it off from Hobie's website. Would be a lot better if Hobie just sent it with the kayak and owner packet.

Yes sir I agree. I also think it would help reduce the amount of kayak theft. When I buy a used kayak if the seller has the MSO it doesn't guarantee it's not stolen but it sure reduces those chances drastically. Yes most people can get an MSO from the manufacture but most thieves aren't going to be willing to put their name/address out there and go through that process. If manufactures would issue MSO's will all new kayaks it would become the norm for buyers to start asking for MSO's. I do.
