I have a Hobie Passport and a Hobie sail from my now sold I12S inflatable. Is there anything special I need to know to put a Furler kit on the Passport with this sail? Thanks.

You won't be using the line/stays.

Here is the furler kit instruction for info: https://static.hobiecat.com/item_attachments/Kayak_Sail_Furler_Instructions.pdf

If you don't add a hatch up forward you might need more hardware for the rail hardware... well nuts.

i am looking at the installation of the furler kit on my new Passport 10.5.

i see two 'challenges': the installation of the fairleads and the down haul.

i do not have a forward hatch to access the inside for installation of the fairleads for the furler line guides nor the eye post for the downhaul line. it is not possible to reach this area from the main/mid-kayak 8 inch hatch and
on the Passport 10.5, the front deck with the three raised ridges does not leave a smooth 6" surface to install the smaller hatch in the accessory catalog.

is there a hatch cover that would work in the space forward of the mast?

in a previous answer on this topic, Matt stated the need for some 'nuts'.
quote from August 2019: If you don't add a hatch up forward you might need more hardware for the rail hardware... well nuts.
Could you, please, provide more detail of recommended 'nuts'?

in an attempt to figure out how to manage without a hatch, i am, sofar, considering using the two aft-most padeye hooks for the shock cord on the forward storage area, I have looked at a dual block such as the Harken Fly Block 2158 for the furler line to the starboard side and simple S-biner for the down haul on the port side.

how does that sound in theory???

thanks for all the good hints and recommendations on this forum. it is great reading and learning.

"Well Nuts" are an inverted rubber "top hat" with the nut sealed in the bottom.
They insert through a hole from the outside.
Tightening the bolt squeezes the nut and rubber up against the backside of the surface.
This keeps the nut from pulling through and seals the hole, at least in theory.

Thanks for the hint that 'well nuts' these are actual fasteners for this type of situation (and not an US American slang expression in this case). I even found a YouTube video from H2OKayaks on the topic with Neoprene and stainless steel in the well nuts. Learning all the time and feeling better about this installation. Thanks a bunch, simone
