2008 Wave, bought used in good shape but rudders are very stained (grey/black marks). I tried scrubbing with dish soap and water. No luck. Tested a spot with acetone, no luck either (in fact doing so seemed to release some fine particles of some sort into the air (wasn’t dirt or dust). When they are wet and I rub hard with my fingers I can see some of the grey color come loose, but using my fingers for the whole job isn’t practical. I’ve read a few forum posts here on cleaning H16 and H18 Rudders with a bleach solution, but I’m not sure if they are the same material as that of the Wave rudders. Any info or tips appreciated.

Nylon for many years. Lexan maybe.

I have found Magic Eraser from any food store works well. It will take the gray off and make them look good. I have a 2003 Hobie Wave and it brought them back to life.

Hi, just done mine. Same problem. I used a neat bleach solution. Left them for a few minutes then rinsed them with clean water. There are a nice light cream colour now. Hope this helps.

I used a bleach solution to clean my 2009 Wave rudders. Worked well.
