Daniel Haglund,

I just checked my mast ball and it measures 64 mm or 2 1/2" top of crossbar to top of ball

On my parts boat that measurement is 68 mm or 2 11/16"

Your looked to be about 74 mm

So my boat at 64 mm is most likely as low as it can be  ....

This good information! Thanks. Next time I will probably just make sure the ball bottoms out and then just make it stay in place using epoxy glue.

When I replaced mine, I kept thinking "how much further will this thing screw on???" It stops eventually. You want it to bottom out without forcing too hard. That way, it should take a lot of stress off the threads and put it on the end of the striker rod. At least, that's my reasoning... I just used several wraps of teflon tape to the point it was a real snug, just at hand-tighten-ability to screw it down, then used a strap wrench to give it a snug at the end.

Have NO IDEA what the official Hobie method is...
