Need some advice on which hobie would work best for me and my son?
We live in Orange County, Southern California, so we are looking to get involved with an active fleet.
Crew weight 390 lbs we want to know what hobie would work best for us.
Experience sailing mono hulls
looking for racing and regatta opportunities

My recommendation would be to start out with a Hobie 18. It's a much more forgiving platform to learn on than a Tiger. Once you have some experience sailing, trapping, righting then move up.

If you still want to start with a Tiger I have a 2005 for sale in Boise Idaho.

Cheers.

Also worth looking at the H16. A classic. Fast and fun.

I would second the H-18 for a first catamaran... at a crew weight of almost 400# I think an 18 would serve you better... the only "disadvantage" I can think of is having to raise the dagger boards... but to me an 18 is a much fun/faster more forgiving boat :-)
