Changing to 8:1 mainsheet - do I need 2 double blocks at boom? I have a set-up for an 8:1, but the 4 way block is on the traveler and I'm using 2, 2-way blocks (one with becket) on original attachment points on boom. That big 4-way on the car is a pain. I notice most cats have it up on the boom with one attachment point. Any reason not to switch to a single point attachment on the boom? Excess force from the size of sail, etc.? It sure would clean up that mess...

May stress the bale or attachment points.

Yup - I'll arrange to gang the attachment somehow. Likely reverse the front bale by re-riveting so they're close together, then I can attach with a shackle.

Thanks - will post solution when done.

Follow up:

I left things alone for my last race, well because I ran out of time and didn't want to get into another project. And, found it wasn't necessary to modify at all. I don't know what changed between last time and this, but the 2, double blocks on the boom work just fine and the rotating quad block on the traveler didn't get fouled. I may have re-organized the sheaving, but don't recall. So, leaving two original mounted blocks for now.

ps Absolutely loving the boat, now that I'm getting used to it. Stinks summer is about gone...

I had 12:1 blocks on my 21SE attached to a single bale on the boom. Worked fine for years, never any damage. I would fly a hull with 3 sitting on the wing, so I loaded the boom up fairly hard, but I am sure I could have stressed it harder than I did.
