Vertical Hatch

New Compass owner, expecting delivery in about three weeks.
Considering hatch upgrade but not sure which way to go.
I have seen both horizontal and vertical rectangle hatches installed on the Compass deck on this forum
I want the most comfortable deck for standing.
I have a few questions that I am hoping some of you seasoned Compass owners can answer.

Is it more comfortable standing on the deck with the factory round hatch?
(it would seem that there is more deck area to stand on and you can shift casting angles without having to stand on the hatch)

Is standing with your foot half on the hatch and half on the deck uncomfortable or awkward?
(looks like the hatch cover will be about 3/8 inch higher than the deck, is adding deck pads the way to go to level the standing area)

Does the factory "approve" of the vertical rectangle hatch upgrade on the Compass?
(I have only seen the horizontal hatch install video from Hobie)

Does installing a rectangular hatch add to or detract from the firmness of the deck for standing?
(seems to me like it should help stiffen the deck)

i installed the horizontal hatch. for the record, the Hobie box doesn't fit. i tired a friends and the lid will not close.

standing up is a non-issue. my feet straddle the sides anyways. i honestly think the addition of the hatch stiffened the deck somewhat. i did add some stiff foam from the latest office computer delivery to bolster the support. i am not a standing up expert. i am a tad "puckered" so moving my feet about the deck is not happening yet.

i do think the Vertical hatch will allow the use of the factory Hobie box.

Think I will go with the vertical hatch

The only issue I see with the vertical hatch is if you decide to add the complete Eva foam deck pad kit later. You’ll have to get creative

Don't see the need for the complete deck pad kit aside from aesthetics (they look great)
Two standing pads is what I have in mind

I installed a horizontal hatch and I have no problems with the Hobie Box ... fits nicely. Did you move the foam inside the hull to allow for adequate space?
