The mirage drive seems like an ideal set up for kids because it is so easy to use. How tall does a kid need to be so she can use the peddle system? One of my girls (age 4.5) is around 40 inches and the other (age 6.5) is around 44 inches. I suspect they are too small now but what is big enough? I have considered a tandem (or two) but I think I will prefer single boats.
