I sail on a small lake that connects into Lake Michigan via a channel. I am dying to get out on the "Big Lake" but I don't trust myself to sail through the channel.

I believe Hobie sells a motor bracket. Anyone have any experience/advice on this?

I have sold several of these to H16 guys down in the keys that live on a canal and must motor to get to the bay. I have heard good thinks about them, personally never used one but have never had a complaint!!

Thanks,

I'm toying with the idea of picking this add-on up.
I have a small trolling motor that I'd be using.
If you do this, let me know how it works!

Cheers,
Nick

Hi,

I'm in the process of fitting a Yamaha 2hp to my Hobie 17....I can see the purists shaking their heads now  , but as I sail solo and usually the only boat on the bay, I like to have the added security, just in case a shroud breaks....or something similiar....plus on our next regatta, I can secretly lower it and zoom past that pesky Nacra 5.8 :D .

I post/email pix if you want. I'm using an old Laser mast for the mount.

I live on Lake supperior and motor sail my boat all the time, I fabricated my own electric motor mount that also carries the battery. This works well as it is mount under the first cross bar so when it is horizontal it is well up out of the water. I believe it helps as added ballast on a wicked day as I single hand alot. Nobody seems to want to brave Gichagumee.
The added bonus is that I can run a wire up my mast and have a beatuful glowing light at the top of my mast as I gaze up at the fire works on the bay on the fourth of july .
Email me and I can show you a sketch of my mount. Any fabricater will do the job for you as they think it is pretty cool :D
