I recently acquired a Trailex traler and want to build an aluminum sailbox. I have considered using Diamond plated aluminum like the truck boxes are made of. I have found a local supply of material, but am not really sure what guage I should use. Anyone else ever built one of these.

Light is right :!:

I wouldn't worry too much about the guage. If you use some aluminum "angle iron" to build a frame and then (AC Tig) weld the plating on it should be plenty strong. :)

I have a trailex trailer with a homemade galvanized box on it. I didn't make it, so I can't tell you the guage. But the key element is that the sizes are rigid enough to support the weight of the cover. The taller and longer the box, the heavier guage you will need.

But since you have an all aluminum trailer that's already light, go for it! Make it bulletproof!
