Hey all...Give Lake St. Beach a shot in Gary...they have a basic launch ramp right on the beach here. Whats nice about it is the water at the bottom of the ramp is only 2-3 feet deep, and there is beach space on either side of ramp....you can slide your boat off the trailer, and walk it to the sand only 20 or so feet away. This is the only ramp I've seen around here with this kind of setup..its PERFECT for for launching cat boats! There's probably about 10 or so Hobies that sail here regularly on weekends. They open around the middle of May once they dig the ramp out with a bulldozer...there's no harbor, so the wave action buries the ramp over the winter. I've been sailing here for the last 6 years, having a blast :)

A couple miles east of the Lake Street ramp is Ogden Dunes, and we have an 18SX, and 17' Nacra, and a gaggle of 16's out. Sail over sometime and we can sail to the warm water discharge just east of the Port of Indiana...the water rushes out to the Lake from the electric plant...and it is at times 15 degrees warmer than the lake.

 Can someone give me general directions to Lake St beach? I *think* I kind of know the general vicinity, but have not been up that way in years!

Thanks!

65 north to 20 east left on lake street will take you to the beach just so you know the will charge you 17$ to launch

I used to buy my license plates in Gary. They would look at the tag and charge me the city resident rate.

Just thought you'd like to know Highland had the highest snowfall in the entire Chicago area during the blizzard...23.9 inches...in 16 hours. Don't ya just miss Indiana? Hope you and your family are all well! :D

I remember 1967. Dad watched out the window as someone with a new car made several attempts to get to work to pay for it. He thought it was funny.

We had the Charlotte Harbor Regatta the week before your storm.

I don't miss it at all.

Jack

What's the deal with Lake St. Beach? Their website shows that it's closed. http://www.in.gov/idem/6614.htm

When I open the link on your link, it says that it is Hidden Lake Beach in Merrilville. Maybe check with the City of Gary parks dept.
