Hey guys
Do you guys run adjustable traps. if so does the skipper and the crew need one and is anyone running without one. In my experience with adjustable traps I have decided I dont like them but have never sailed a boat long enough to really need it.
Your thoughts will be much appreciated.

None of of my Trapeze are adjustable. Crew uses my trapeze downwind so the bungee does not have to stretch too much. You have to be willing to set the traps low enough to use for such a purpose. Mine touch the deck right below where they hang. I also have loose fitting harnesses. If your harnesses fit tight you may have to go a couple inches lower to compensate.

I have found that after I got the adjustable, I don't really adjust that often. The only time I adjust is dependant on the amount of chop or swells and want to ride a little higher. I wish the rope stops were just an easier adjustment. I have also found that adjustable ones are difficult to adjust while out on the wire(i'm heavy) and they have accidently adjusted themselves before. And it's always when all _ell is breaking loose. If I have a new crew, I just make the adjustment on land before we head out.

We have adjustable both for crew and helm. We shorten the trapeze before each tack (much easier to get in and out and no danger of unhooking yourself in the last moment), and go down again after the tack. Best improvement we did to the Tiger so far.

I have to agree with Claus -

Similar to what are on the Torando, we use a 2 piece system that allows us to adjust the length so that we can get in, or out, without dragging our bum. The system additionally allows us to get on the wire earlier in a more upright "skiff" position when we want to use less leverage and reduce the time spent coming in and out on the wire.... We are using nearly 2 feet of adjustment.

We run the aluminum knock offs of the Marstom part that have been done by NACRA. They are called "race adjustors".

Paul

See attached for what we use:

DHFiend: Cool YouTube vid, and equally cool trap-lines!!! I've looked around online for any info I could find on those Nacra "Race Adjusters" you mentioned but couldn't find anything. Do you have a URL that you could post here?

Did you have to shorten your trap wires to make that set-up work? It's difficult to tell from the video, but it looks like the trap-wires on your rig may be a little shorter than what comes OEM from Hobie...

The rings and inline sheaves are the two key pieces of the adjustable trapeze system which is a part of the NACRA F18 "Race Package". Call Ron Lane at Fastlane sailing at 619-222-0788. #9136 is the part number of the whole adjustable trapeze system.

As typical with NACRA you will find nothing useful online about the parts and be prepared to wait.

With regard to the wire length - that is the "secret sauce". We have shortened ours to fit us exactly for the range of motion we wanted to use to get in and out of the boat smoothly. How much you shorten will be up to your height and style of sailing....
