I wanted to take my 16 down to the sea of cortez late summer and sail from beach to beach camping every night. What I really want to do is sail it from Mexico to Panama, hire a truck to cross over to the carribean, and then sail north to texas, always keeping land in sight and camping on beaches every night. There would be two hobies, me and my friends, as support for one another, beaching, helping right the boat if needed, etc.. It is just a dream, but hard to keep my mind off of it. Im a decent sailor, good shape, and ready for an adventure. Questions, does anybody know what the beaches are like soon as you are in the unprotected pacific (out of cortez), are there beaches pretty constant, or would I be stuck out in the water with nowhere to land the boat for a while, I also heard the beaches are steep and could be difficult to beach the boat? Wind and current, does anybody have any info on wind and currents of any of the areas I would be sailing, I feel like the currents should be in my favor, I don't think they would be a big deal being close to shore and having a small draft boat, but still wondering? Would drinking water be tough to come by? Has anyone ever put oars on their hobie, this would allow me to make pretty good head way on calm days, a few miles maybe. Any other info people would like to share would be greatly appreciated. It is a far fetched plan that I am just milling over in my head, and would love to hear what other folks would say. heck maybe someone has already done this.
