Questions

Hi all! I am new to the forums and hobie and sailing but look forward to joining your ranks soon. The wealth of knowledge to be found on forums such as this is just amazing. I have enjoyed reading all 7 pages of posts regarding the AI. i have yet to see one in person as my dealer has never had one in stock or sold yet. he has sold a few Adventure yaks though. He does plan to stock them for '09 and the new Fishing Hobie yak that will surprise some with its design. Here in southern coastal NC we have the perfect places to take the AI with the Cape Fear river, Intracoastal Waterway and ocean and wind a plenty. i love the 3 in 1 that this boat provides and just how excited you owners are about it every time you take it out. I want to do that. I want to learn to sail but be able to go alone when I want to and not need a crew.

i have watched all the you-tube possible about it and already downloaded the instruction manual and read assembly inst. and was curious about a few things I have not seen posted.

1. the owners manual does not have a section for care or maintenance for the boat or sail rig or mirage drive? Is there supposed to be one? what is the maintenance?

2. Do you use the paddle it came with or did you get another one? the paddle on the Hobie mirage tandem at the dealers blades seemed real flimsy and cheap?

3. What is the dimensions on the amas and akas L&W. The manual and website don't say.

care for the boat is very simple, wash it w/fresh water and keep it out of the sun if possible. Hobie's UV spray will help with fading.
Sail should be store in its "sock"
mirage drive just needs to be rinsed w/fresh water

The paddle are not the best on mirage drives, but who uses them anyways?

I don't have an Island at the store right now they are in the warehouse so I can't give you the measurements of the ama's right now, i am sure someone will let you know.

Amas are 8'10" long and a bit over 7" wide.

If you are not using the drive at least once a week, spraying the metal parts with WD40 is recommended, more so if used in salt water.

Wow the amas are big.... MMMM where to carry them.

Aahh the old Wd-40 for the chains i suppose. Yes it will be salt water 90% of the time. I always wash stuff off everytime.

I use Boeshield T-9 instead of WD-40. It has better capillary action and better corrosion resistance.

That Boeshield seems to be some amazing stuff. All of the things you can put it on. Thanks Tom
