I want to buy a used Hobie 16. Age is unknown but the hull is light blue. Does that date it somehow? I was told that all hobies were white, then came in colour :?: and then all move back to white. Can anybody confirm if this is true and if so in which period did the colourful hulls appeared?

Actually, they came in colors first.

Then they had problems with fading and discoloration - and people making warranty claims.

So they went to white.

Anyway, the serial number (post 1973) is located on the transom, just under the deck lip.

The last 3 chracters tell the model year and month of manufacture.

See this FAQ:http://www.hobiecat.com/support/warranty/sailserial.html
