Hi All,

Tramp lacing question, I am replacing my original vinyl tramp with a new mesh one. How do I terminate the ends of the 3 lines? I've got the 2 stern lines terminated in the corner castings and the center line tied off on the front grommet. That leaves the other end of all three at the middle grommet of the rear tramp piece. Do I tie them off on this one grommet? Seems like a lot of stress for one grommet.

Hey, Dan -

The center lacing usually gets tied off on the last grommet on one side (I think its usually the port side). The two rear lacings get tied off at the center grommet on the back strip.

Usually, there's about a foot of excess line on each line - I lace it back to the previous grommet (exssentially doubling up the last "stich") and then tie a bunch of half hitches to eat up the rest of the line.

Thanks Matt,

Ricks starts on april 17 and runs thru the 22nd, so I'll be driving home during Fenton. Anything I should do to the boat for a long road trip? I"ve already stripped it but was thinking of wrapping the hulls in shrink wrap or something. I want to get to a race shortly after I get back, but I still have the weekend work problem. I may end up at Austin Lake, Tuesday is my day off.

I'm also trying to get to Regata de Gatos, but that would work best if I can find someone with a double stack to bring my boat. They bring my boat, I bring the bed, bath, kitchen, etc.

Dan - make sure you've got the right date for Austin Lake.

It's scheduled for September 11-12.

I'm sure we could find somebody to double your boat to RDG. Not a big deal at all.

Oh, OK.

As far as travelling long distance with the boat - strip it down to the hulls, tramp and bare mast. It's going to get dirty. Plan on washing it when you get there.

The biggest enemy of your boat on the trailer is chafe. Make sure that there aren't any loose lines fluttering around and that everything is tied down securely. Wrap an old towel around the mast where it's held by the mast supports fore and aft.

I avoid having tie downs touching the hulls by tying the boat down by the 4 corners at the sidebars, leading the tie down towards the center of the boat (over the top of the corner castings) and angled down towards the center of the trailer. Not only does this keep the boat attached to the trailer, it keeps it from sliding back and forth on the rollers.
