I finally got around to doing a video of the spray shield I made. there are 2 video's here:

http://s217.photobucket.com/albums/cc18 ... rsIdsigns/

It started out larger and more complicated so I have been fine tuning it until it now is what it is. Works quite well. The dodger works well but large water still finds it's way in through the mast and aka holes. This has for the most part eliminated the problem
Cheap and easy to make, quick to install and you can fold the amas with it on as shown in the videos.
I am sure someone could make it neater and better but this works for me!

Looks great! Have you driven the boat through any large waves with that attached?

Not been out in the big stuff, waiting for wind. It has kept the smaller annoying water from coming in the aka and mast holes of the dodger.
It probably need to be fuller at the nose with a spreader like one of the other guys made but I wanted to keep it really simple.
Yes, I will video it when I get the right conditions.

I noticed that PHIL mentioned 'widening' the front of his newly constructed spray shield.
Several members have shown videos of spray shields with a 'batten' running through the front of the spray shield to 'widen' the shield.
Would a small fibreglas rod work as a batten (in a sewn pocket)?

What rod length (width) would you recommend? I tried to capture a still video frame of several of the videos to estimate the rod length, but with
perspective, I am not sure what length would be preferred.

Tidalwave,
my batten is 19" long and is about 16" back from the front handle. When I make another one for me, I would make the batten longer but place it just in front of the front hatch as the first foot does little to stop spray but catches a lot of wind.

Phil,
What material did you use to make yours? I used shade cloth on mine because it is breathable. Water can go strait through it to drain but can't go at an angle (spray or splash). My first one used waterproof cloth and if the nose buried in a wave it really grabbed the bow and wouldn't give it back easily. Plus I had to add holes for any water to drain.

I used this
http://www.easygardener.com/index.cfm?f ... D=164#fray

Lowes or Home Depot has it in small rolls. It's real nice to sew on a regular sewing machine. I used sail thread just cause I had it.
I had thought about running a line out to the ama bows and than back to the carrying handles on the amas and than into where I put the hook in, I was going to lace the cloth onto that. I decided that by the time I got it together to go the boys would have left me. I am sure that the really big stuff will still find its way over the whole boat but I wanted to keep out the small stuff that keeps splashing into the dodger holes.
I hand sewed the cloth to the bunje ends that clip onto the cockpit sides, it is free to move everywhere else.
