Is it possible to get colored sails for a Hobie 20 and if so where?

If you want to race it you need class legal hobie sails. If you want after market all you need to know is what color and material you want. You can Talk to Jeremy at Surf City to get Either. Btw he will be out of town till jan 10 th. The only listed sail for the 20 is white but they may have some old stock left.

You can order custom. The color selection is something like white, red, smoke, blue.

Matt,

I'll probably order a new set of sails for my H-20 this winter. The newer sails that I've seen this summer, sail numbers 900+, are white, but up close they appear to be made of a semi-transparent material with diagonal fibers running through it. I guess this is an improved type of mylar? The new sails look much more modern and of better quality than my 1997 sails. I've heard people refer to their new sails as "racing sails". Given the one design nature of the class, I'm assuming that this new "racing sail" is the only style that Hobie makes.

I want to confirm that if I ordered a set of custom colored sails, it would be made of the same material and cut the same way as the white 900+ numbered sails that are leaving me in their wake. Is that the case? I'm thinking about ordering a main and jib in solid blue, reminiscent of the 1976 Hobie 16 World's boats. Is that feasible? On the other hand, I could come up with a wicked design using the current palet of blue, white, yellow, smoke and red.

Now for the million dollar question (pun intended): How much would a solid H-20 main and jib cost?

Thanks for your feedback,

Mark Van Doren

There is no "recreational" sail made for the 20... they are all Race ready. The material is Diax. We have used the same material for many years now. Colors are somewhat limited.

Thanks to Matt and Jeremy at Surf City for help with getting my new Hobie 20 custom Coloured main
They seemed to help at Round TI regatta this year (and I can use some help!)
To me, White sails are boring - look at every beach advertisement and there are always coloured sails!
It also helps to make you more visible when you end up in Fog which has happened in Santa Cruz
