Dan,
Instead of the grommets, how about some small aluminum tubing that you could bend into a Z shape (or S shape). Make the bends slight, and just enough so that the cable will pull through them and you can insert it into the holes to use as a grommet as well. If that doesn't make sense, I can try and draw something up. I am thinking a couple of inches of brake line tubing.

I would try and find something were the inner diameter is large and roomy enough for the cable, and the outer diameter is pretty comparable to the holes you already have. You probably don't want to keep enlarging holes. I would ensure there were no burrs on the inside so as not to compromise the cables, and to let them glide easily.

You might find something in a hobby shop as I am sure that there is occasionally the need to make cables turn awkward corners. My other though was a auto supply store, picking up a stick of brake line tubing that you could cut to length.

Dan,
I was in my local hobby shop today, and saw a complete line of tubing (alimunum and copper) that could be used as a grommet for your cables. Bending the z shape might be a bigger issue, but there might be a tool (other than a standard tubing bender) made for the job. The other trick would be to use a regular tubing bender, but fill the tube with sand to keep the tube from crushing.

So check your local hobby shop.

Just a quick note.

The system works.

Lock the rudder in place by just screwing down the knob.

Also works to make changing the rudder to put a bit more pressure on the handle. Helped me as I have a tendency to over steer. More pressure meant I could make finer adjustments without overcorrecting.

Also you don't have to have the knob locked down all the way to hold the rudder in place due to random water pressure on the rudder due to swells, etc. Doesn't work that well on a close haul tack in a high wind as the AI has a tendency to point up (may need a higher aspect rudder in these conditions???), but helps in most other situations.

Best thing was I could set up a straight course, and gain enough time to use two hands to rig my fishing poles without circling off to timbuktu .

If you mount this, move the apparatus closer to the pocket net. The 5-6" will help you when reaching fwd to the knob.

I will have to watch the spectra holes carefully to see what I can put in there per idavis suggestions.

Observation today.

The supplied cord has stretched. Created some slack.

Pre stretch it with a weight for at least 24 hours before using. Maybe wet also.
