I picked up a hobie 3.5 very cheap off of craigslist. It is sail number 138 it needs some work but shouldn't be too bad. It doesn't have rudders so I am hoping another model such as the H14's rudders will work. I cannot find any information on this boat at all. Anyone know anything about this model?

Thanks, I am ordering the manual, but I can't find any websites with info. I only have been able to locate mention of the 3.5 in Mr.Alter's bio and a handful of pics people have posted. Do you know of any sites exactly? Thank you.

I found lots of pictures, some history on your boat and the parts for; the website salty dog marine looks to be your best bet.

The 3.5's rudders were made of wood and shared common parts with the Hobie 12 MonoCat. There were a lot more Hobie 12s made - the rudders shouldn't be too hard to find.

How does the sail look?
Have you thought about "parting ways" with the sail? Just wondering!?!? hahaha

Supposedly Hobie only made 750 (or so) 3.5's. I picked one up a few years ago but the hulls are totally delaminated. If anyone has any hulls laying around, let me know.
Thanks,
John

They are the same rudders as the Hobie 12 MonoCat - there are more of them out there than the 3.5, so you might find something on eBay. Some dealers have a stock of old parts.

The original rudders were made of mahogany.

I have what may be a 3.5 with rudders intact. A friend just gave me this boat that belonged to his son and hadn't been used in 10 years. The hulls measure about 11' 6" from tip to tip. The wooden rudders are in pretty bad shape and may be made from mahogany, I can't tell. I'll get back to you with serial numbers, etc. when I get back down to my lakehouse on Lake Anna, VA, in a couple of weeks.
In the meantime, I can email a pic we took of the boat after towing over to our house. My email address is: [email protected]
