Hi,

We are new to sailing the hobie. I grew up sailing a sunfish from the time I was very young. My parents had a Catalina that I think was in the upper 20 some feet in length. Wife has never sailed at all. So, I am looking for a place in Eastern NC that has a beach launch where we could go out from and come back without worrying about docking the hobie while we are learning. We have a 1984 Hobie 16 with Plum Crazy 84 Nationals sails. Any help is greatly appreciated, as well as information on helping to get my wife acquainted to sailing.

Thanks for all of your help. Again looking for a beach area to launch in NC. Beaufort County, Craven County, Carteret County, Pamlico County, etc etc. Would prefer near Washington or Bath if someone knows.

I'm not sure if Whichard's Beach was still open or not.

Thanks again,

ECU Sailor

Matt,

I looked at the map, but didn't seem to see anything inland. OBX would not be a bad trip, but looking to do something every weekend. My parents have a home on the water, but our dock has been washed away by storms and not since replaced.

I'll look again,

Hopefully there is another NC Hobie Sailor on here from my part of the state.

Thanks again to everyone for all of their help.

Check my posts for places to sail in NC
Do not try the outer banks until you get a good bit of hobie time
Check the post for Oak Island and Edisto Island

Got the place for you. Bells Island Campground. We have 4 Hobies there, sail every weekend. Beach the boats, take a break, go back out. Wind direction doesn't matter there. Always great sailing. Plenty of cheap campsites and great camp fires every night. 15 minutes south of Moyock.

Right here guy.
Sailed this area for 24 years. Mc Cotter's Marina in Washington( approx 20 miles east of G-ville). Two launches that are wind protected for 200+ yards. Free, easy, no overheads, and close to you. Very light water traffic, primarily sailors. Great "sailing family" of live-aboards on 7 docks not including the community country club. Very family friendly area.

Nevermind the loud pipe organ playing carnival music. This is normal in the summer. You will get used to it.

Drop a line, go Pirates
