I now have my boat stored with it's mast up at the Redwood City launch ramp. Drive the 100 yards to the ramp, put it in, raise the sails and go! I am sore , stiff and sun burnt, and I could not be happier. I am next to 2 Tigers and a Narca 20. Can you say boat envy?

The sailing is pretty good. The wind come up steadily in the afternoon. The water is warm and pretty protected. The wind direction makes it a bit of a chore getting the sails up at the dock. Watching the Tigers point up into the wind and just accelerate out really makes me wonder if I can do something to get The Getaway to point better. All in all, it 's a lot of fun.

One thing to try, after the boat is up to speed when sailing upwind tighten the weather jib sheet to bring the jib in about 1 inch closer to the mast. I tried this on a getaway I was sailing and it seemed to help however I did not have a chance to do a boat on boat trial to see what the real difference was

I'll give it a try this Saturday. I need to work on a few things. I had my wife releasing the jib sheet before it back winded on a tack, so we need to smooth things out. I also hang out at the stern too much and need to move forward. That's why I sail, it's never done.

Also while getting forward helps when sailing upwind, during a tack moving wieght aft and delayng the cross will help the boat come around a bit faster. Obviously if it's blowing hard you need to cross fast

Well we tacked much better today. We got her to point a bit better, but I think we are about as far as it's going. Just sat back and enjoyed the ride. One long broad reach all the way back in was pretty cool.

Nothing wrong with a nice broadreach coming home. Glad you and the crew are enjoying it

Sounds like Redwood City is working out!

You should hook up with my friend crobiecat, he's about 15 minutes from there, but mostly sails Santa Cruz. If you're ever in a pinch for crew, maybe you could hook up.
Pics of he and his wife from last weekend:

Thanks Jeremy for the Picture. It was from the regatta last week end in Santa Cruz.
I was nice to be able to push the boat harder than usual, with the safety of having chase boat around !
I learnt quite a few things about the boat and could try new things, such as broad reach with spinnaker in high wind and big waves ! What a blast !
The GPS timed me at 14.9 knots... not the record though...

Crobiecat is sure looking great in the pics! I would have liked to put my boat in Santa Cruz, but the drive was just a little too long. Also, my wife is just learning to sail so Redwood City is working out well.

I went to Redwood City saturday afternoon. Lot of wind but no catamaran out :(
A few dinghies were having fun though!

Crobiecat,
Sorry no one was out there. I have made 5 straight Saturdays, but deferred maintenance on other projects required my attention yesterday. Drop me an e-mail at [email protected] and we can hook up. I will be in Santa Cruz today, but not to sail. The girl child has earned a day at the boardwalk with a friend.
No Worries
Paul

Just curious as I'm still learning. Should crobiecat put more tension on the downhaul? I see some wrinkles on the luff.

I'm not trying to pick on him, I'm really curious to know if the downhaul should have more tension or not and why.
