Hi everyone. New here. I had a 16 for many years in my 20's and have now come full circle at 50. Tis the season to buy boats and the deals are great with the economy adding its 2cents. I bought this clunker for $800, probably overpaid since the sail turned out to be crap (previous owner thinks they are "full of life") but everything else is workable (so far, i think).
I'll post my resto blog here. I rigged up a couple twice by fours on a boat trailer to get it the 200+ miles home here in Shelburne, VT. Worked great. Hulls are in excellent shape, light. It's Coleman but will look up the age. This thing will be looking like a million buck in a couple months. I recently completed a Glastron 1978 (Glitterglam) GT-150 that smokes so I'm not scared of this project (yet).
http://www.jamesbond150.blogspot.comLoads of questions but for now just the ones coming up.
What are the old rudders made of? Mine are grey but that could be crud. They seem heavy and soft like waterlogged wood. I want to know so I can sand then epoxy/gel the finish back.
Also, I don't think I can afford anodize so I'll leave the aluminum silver and brush it. Any comments appreciated to bring back the aluminum or cover it with something that will last 10 years (not rustoleum, I don't think). Clear coat AL? Maybe Autoshop when they are spraying another car?
3-2-1, Here we go!
