So I made a sweet little score today.
I picked up a second mast.
Comptip at that.
I have a solid aluminum that I have been useing. One day I will get my trailer street "legal" and be able to join the local fleet then race.
One day later than that I will sell my boat <tear-sniffle-sniffle> for a better/newer cat.
The question of the day is: "How much more could I ask for now that I can sell the boat with a play mast and a race mast?"

I'm not looking for a total package price cause you guys have never seen the boat but what does selling it with a race mast and a play mast bring me?

Hmmm... Assuming that you have a pre '86 Hobie the used boat value of those is so low that throwing in a spare mast does not make a big difference. Besides that, there is nothing racey about the comptip mast. IIRC the comptip mast is US only phenomenon while the rest of the world competes with an all aluminum mast. Especially when the comptip ages it's bending characteristics changes (to softer and more flex under load) resulting in lower performance. Comptips that were exposed to much sunlight tend to experience this type of fatigue early – there are some condom looking bags that will reduce the aging process – I think you can only use those while the mast is horizontal.

CompTips...

Wear on CompTips is generally related to cosmetic issues. I know of no difference in performance due to age. Never heard that. The CompTip is a North American Class issue rather than just USA. Anyplace that bought boats from the USA plant, so they are all over the place.

Value? It makes the boat class legal, so the number of people buying a boat is expanded. You can get a new retrofit tip for under $300.00, so it is not really worth more than that difference.

Best to sell one of the masts as a spare I'd guess.
